Equine charity, The British Horse Society (BHS) exists to change lives through the power of horses. Whatever path you take with horses, we are here to protect and support the interests of all equestrians every step of the way.
This support is particularly critical, at a time when the number of riding schools across the UK is in rapid decline. We recently found that over 250 riding schools have closed since 2018. That equates to an approximate loss of more than 1.5 million riding lessons per year and 1.5 million fewer opportunities for children, and adults, to build an indescribable bond with horses.
We recognise the urgent need to cherish this unique horse human bond, a bond that has been transformational for so many people. Without this, and our riding facilities, Britain’s equestrian industry would not be able to thrive.
Through education, equine welfare, protecting and increasing off-road access, safety for horses and riders, and increasing community participation, as well as providing financial and practical help for riding schools, we are focused on our goal to ensure future generations can continue to easily access, as well as experience the joys of horses, riding and carriage driving.
Our unique team of volunteers play an essential role in this work, but we do rely on the generosity of our supporters who can choose to help in several different ways. Collectively, we strive to capture how truly special horses are and to make sure they continue to be a supportive companion for people from all backgrounds.
Keep your eyes peeled to see the array of offerings The BHS will be providing at Bramham Horse Trials this year. Any donations you can make will be hugely appreciated.
